From total contract value to project gross margin % — seven numbers that tell a renovation business owner exactly where each project stands.

You don't need a full finance department to stay on top of a renovation business — but you do need to know your numbers. Start with these seven.

The Seven Numbers

  1. Total Contract Value — what the project was signed for
  2. Revised Contract Value — contract value plus approved variation orders
  3. Amount Collected — progress payments and deposits actually received
  4. Outstanding Receivables — what customers still owe on the project
  5. Direct Project Costs — materials, suppliers, subcontractors and direct labour
  6. Project Gross Profit — revised revenue minus direct costs
  7. Project Gross Margin % — gross profit as a percentage of project revenue

Why These Seven

Together they answer the questions owners ask most: are we collecting on time, are we spending on plan, and is this project actually worth doing?
